INTRODUCTION
At some stage every young man has dreams of being a music star. And at some much later stage, an older man usually learns to bid those dreams goodbye. So it was with me. After almost 6 decades, and counting, producing over 500 songs, and counting, I've finally accepted that fame and fortune has passed me by. Anything I do from now on is just for the fun of it.....
Of course, my music wasn't entirely without its fans, and one or two of them (oh alright then, both of them) have suggested that I should post the songs on a web site, for posterity. So, for anyone who's interested, here are my complete lyrics, along with musical scores and guitar tabs, plus a small but growing selection of sample audio/video clips.
The material here doesn't appear here in any set chronological order. I'll have to leave it to the reader to separate out the teenage angst, from the swaggering know it all of the twenty or thirty something, from the sad later life concession that, actually, I know bugger all about anything .....
New stuff will continue to appear, as and when I organise things.
Note that all the stuff on this web site is copyrighted. Please don't copy or otherwise adapt any of the lyrics or music, whether for money or otherwise, without prior written permission. I may have given up any dreams of securing fame and fortune from my songs, but I'd be pretty miffed if someone else tried to do it!
On the other hand, I'd never shun publicity for the songs, and would be amenable to most written requests to reproduce the contents of the site, in exchange for due credit and a guarantee that copyright would be safeguarded. My e-mail address appears below. Sheet music and guitar tabs sheets are available for interested parties. As a (very rough) guide, the music is a general mix of folk, soft rock, and - more recently- jazz - well, sort of. It would usually suit a fairly standard line up of guitar(s), bass, and piano, and optional drums, with the occasional more exotic beastie (e.g. saxophone) thrown in.
This site is dedicated to those who have encouraged me over the years. It's all their fault.
THE SONGS .....
All songs were written sometime between circa 1976 and the present day. Some earlier lyrics started life as poems, when I used to write those, too. Many of these have been published previously (as have a large number of later song lyrics, cunningly disguised as poems!). The dates shown are the dates the collections were added to this site, not the dates on which the stuff was written or first published.

The songs have been divided into loosely themed collections, as follows (more collections will be added later):
NOTE: Although the vast majority of the lyrics are entirely uncontroversial, a few, especially some of the early ones, do contain the occasional more direct sexual reference, or other explicit language. Similarly, some of the older songs may reflect attitudes of the day, which may not always be fully acceptable now. Please bear these warnings in mind when browsing the site, or allowing others to do so.

FOR MUSICIANS - SOME NOTES ON SCORES AND TABS: Scores and tabs are now complete, for all finished collections. They have for the most part been put together manually, and despite my noble proof reading efforts, will almost certainly contain errors. Hopefully most errors will quickly become obvious to anyone studying the music. Naturally, I will be pleased to have them pointed out to me (preferably politely), and will correct, clarify, or generally respond to queries, as soon as I can. Guitar tabs are laid out in numbered bars. Where a chord changes within a bar, the ">" symbol will indicate a beat of repetition. Example: "C >> Am" means "start in C and change to A minor on the third beat. My apologies if this isn't representative of any general standard. It's simply how I've always done things. For many scores and tabs, the given chords are accompanied by optional alternatives which guitarists, with the aid of a capo, may find easier to play. I've included scores for most of the parts that were originally envisaged for a piece. That's not to say that all the scored parts are essential. Many parts are in any case only approximations of what was imagined. This sheet music is intended to be less a formal instruction of what to play, or how to play it; more an informal demonstration of "this is how it goes". Individual musicians will of course be free to interpret these scores in their own way - more often than not resulting in an improvement. Please however take care to respect copyright, seek permission to use or record the songs, and give proper acknowledgment where due for the original.
